Network fails are independent of power source - and no we haven't had one round here in years.

Dennis for once I am in total agreement with you.

There's much much more if the stupid greens would butt out and we got on with fracking. But as I've said many times for a despatchable clean supply use nukes.

And so up goes the cost and then come the claims that renewables are no more expensive.

Maybe they should design renewables that are fit for purpose first.

no it's not

certainly we can. We already are. Less pollution is desirable, as are many things.

true for other reasons. But they probably won't. We're only going to see a drop in basic standards if the greens force it on us politically. And they might. It won't achieve anything bar suffering.

that or Dave could get a clue about the basics of power plant engineering. I know, it won't happen.

We are already building them, Google CCGT power generation.

I wonder if google will be paying the right tax on them.

And have to turn them off on a hot day. Just when air-con use peaks. Welcome to the perfect world of nuclear generation.

That still leaves it standing idle much of the time meaning it is inefficient and costly compared to running it full time.

So design new ones better - and no they don't use sea water to cool the rectors.

No one turns off reactors on hot days. At best the French have to throttle the river ones back a bit but that is because they have a limit on river water temperature they are allowed to generate

UK ones are all on the coast. No restrictions

6 reactors are offline at the moment having routine inspections and maintenace - a good time to do it to be ready for the winter.

Hey, at last there is some justification for solar then, as long as they can do the work required on a day that stays sunny.

They aren't turned off on hot days.

Yes, where *does* Our Dave get this tripe from?

Ah - right. Design new ones - but it is impossible to make gas ones which can react quickly to demand.

I take it your only source of news is here?

No, his main source of news is Twatter, going by the number of times he's posted gems from it here!

Doesn't seem unlikely to me, after all there is no sun at all for half the time.
