OT: Need recommendation for website download software

I was assuming the OP just wanted to copy a website that he does not have that level of access to, and hence needs to scrape it using HTTP through its normal web server. Perhaps the OP could clarify?

You're quite right Mr. Rumm sir :D

Quite simply, it's a website that holds a workshop manual for an item of machinery. I've paid a sum of money for unlimited access to the manual, which includes the right to print off any and all pages that I want, at any time. So, given the time and inclination I could print off all one thousand pages and have a hard copy here.

However, as I said above, when I come to a situation that demands that half a dozen or more other items need to be removed first before I get to the part I need to replace, the printed pages would not have the dynamic aspect of a hypertext-linked website, so it would take an awful lot of shuffling about of pages and extra time to get to the relevant information instead of the "Click here for information to remove Part A" and "Click here for information to remove Part B" HTTP links.

I would like a full HTML copy of the website on my laptop to refer to dynamically, in situations where I will not have any internet access and so cannot refer to the live website.

Another way that just occurred to me that I have also used, it to grab a copy using Acrobat (the full product, not just the "reader"). That you can point at a starting web page, tell it a maximum depth of link to follow, and whether to follow links off site etc. It will then grab all the pages, and follow all the links.

So the copy ends up as a single PDF document, all fully hyperlinked.

(if you want, email me a link to the site in question and I can try it for you)

Wouldn't that require server side access, or is it all done with JavaScript? If it needs server access, you'll have to set up a web server locally. You could try saving a few pages to HDD and see what happens when you click on these links.

Thanks John, I may just take you up on that if I have no success with other methods. I've downloaded and installed HTTrack so intend to give that a go this weekend when I have more time.
