I bought 3 new tyres from Kwik-Fit, and their price was significantly better than anyone else I could find, including BlackCircles. Fitting was all done competently, etc.
They're certainly not as bad as one might imagine but can be variable. I had a puncture a few weeks ago (damn those sharp screws). Took the motor to Kwik-Fit, where the (almost new) tyre came from. Blokey said the screw was too close to the edge to repair so needed a new tyre but would take a day to get it in. When I went back, blokey number 2 said it was repairable, if a little marginal and did it for free as they had a deal to fix punctures on all their tyres (I didn't know/remember that). I did question whether it was safe, but we measured it togetehr and it was in the repair zone. So that saved a good few squids...
You'll now be on their mailing list. In a month or two they will say they can do you a free safety check. Brakes, pads, dampers, exhaust, wiper blades as a minimum will require replacement.
I'd not be too sure they didn't screw up on the tyre change either. Scratched rims or massively overtorqued wheel bolts / nuts.
Having said that I got some worn tyres removed for free by a branch a few years ago so I could get the rims refurbished...but it was cheaper to buy two tyres online and get them fitted on my drive in the pouring rain than it was to buy just one from kwikfit and wait for half an hour in one of their rank oil and grime encrusted waiting rooms.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some years ago i had two rear shock absorbers put in the back of a renault
Taking the car into kwik fit for something else, i was told there was oil leaking from a rear shock absorber and it needed replacing. i said you put that in about six months ago, he went quiet and quickly changed the subject. It wasn't changed. Has this kind of behaviour of theirs changed over the years i wonder?
Few years ago had KwikFit mobile change a tyre on the wifes motability car. Couple of days later driving along and a very heavy banging started in the front. Immediate pullover and call to AA to discover one wheel hadn't been tightened at all ...
