OT: how do you tell how busy a certain solicitor is?

without asking them?

IOW how do you avoid ending up being a "coast down to retirement without sticking your neck out, just take the money" punter/mug...?

You find a solicitor who is by nature, efficient.

I'me very lucky - our firm (I have dealt with 3 of their solicitors for various specialisms) are all unbelievably efficient. I never have to chase them. Rare, but not impossible to find.

They also live by email as I do and that makes a big difference - they only post paper when it's "really official".

You ring them up at a couple of times to find out information from them. If they answer the phone/email and get back to you promtly then they are more efficient than those that don't.

For property conveyancing any who advertise in the auction catalogues are likely to be more efficient.
