I wager number plate cloning is not as rife in Norway as it is in the UK.
I'd expected by now plans for new cars to come with chips that could be read remotely.

No-one with a home charger is paying 40p/kWh! Mine's 13p at the moment.

Agas are an acquired taste (my mother grew up with one, and got one herself when I was about 10). I don't like them that much, but I can use them.
But ceramic hob vs induction? Night and day.
Andy
I'm getting suggestions that the value of mine may actually be going up. (Maintenance cost, OTOH, are _definitely_ going up. The price of a nice but old car)
Andy
That still wont net you 20p a mile, nor will it get you up a 300 mile motorway
Oh yes. Ive used *everything* in my time. Including open wood fires.
It all does the job once you learn how to use it.
Are you doing different sums to me!
My average is 298 Wh per mile, times 13p per kWh = 3.9 p/mile fuel cost.
And the length of motorway it will get me up is nothing to do with the price of electricity.
nib
Which is not 2p a mile (20p was a typo)
Oh yes it is.
Standalone Low Power AC Chargers – 39p/kWh Electric Forecourts® – 45p/kWh Medium Power Chargers – 48p/kWh High Power Chargers – 50p/kWh"
Ta for the correction.
Remember 2p was the OP's figure. I'm far from being on the cheapest EV tariff, just ordinary E7.
And also note, even if there were one or two public charger charges required now and again, for a normal user (like me!) it would have very little affect on the average cost. In 14000 miles so far I've never used one!

I suppose that can be applied to hand washing and mangles. I can do my washing many ways, but there's nothing like the convenience of a modern appliance. If you have time to spare in your life or don't value your own time I can see where you're coming from.
Aga vs Induction hob. Tough one for some. Personally I would choose the hob for convenience and doesn't have a flue accumulating soot.
Cars will be tracked, constantly reporting their position, speed and acceleration, and allowing remote shutdown. No need for roadside sensors.
I saw a clip on TV today of a professional cook using a pan in a way that demanded gas. He had the pan tilted at about 30 degrees while he spooned gravy over the thing he was cooking. The spoonfuls ran to the edge of the pan where he could spoon them up again.
But I don't cook things that complicated.

I sold our 18 month old EV last year through motorway.com for £6000 more than I had paid for it new. It wouldn't happen now.
Our 58kWh EV will get 240 miles at motorway speeds and I charge it either from surplus solar generation or at night at 7.5p/kWh. Near enough 2p/mile.
Even charging at peak rate of 29.56p/kWh I would only be paying just over 7p/mile.
Is there any point of charging on surplus solar when you could be exporting at 15p?
Tim
Fried egg?
If you have off street parking and have invested in solar you may be able to run your EV cheaply but in the town where I live there are vast areas where it's all on-street parking. The only practical way for people living in those properties to own an EV would be have pavement side charging points. I doubt if the cost of electricity from those is going to be any lower than the variable stand rate tariffs. Someone has to pay for that infrastructure and maintenance and that money is going to be added to your utility bills or comes from local or national taxation. Now that you have invested to have the ability to charge your EV cheaply are you now prepared to pay for someone else to have a charging point on a pavement outside their house.
I'm glad that you are not keeping the countries accountts
I was recently told off for parking in front of a house where the Tesla owner draped his cable across the pavement, covered with a mat.
Why? With a particularly efficient EV that's just what is works out as!
(At my summer rate average of about 250 Wh/mile, it'd be about right, for example).
