I dunno - it's beyond comprehension. You might imagine, with all that's going on in the world, that people wouldn't do this:

<font color="#000000">but it seems that naivety knows no bounds.</font>

That's the item I referenced. Why was your newsreader adding all that markup?

It was in the raw message you posted.

When you need to check what you've sent later, Howard has a copy (

It looks like an excess of exuberance at the Clipboard. Some Clipboard magic.

It was yours that added the html trimmings ...

I shall enquire about that.

Humph. All I did was copy the address from the Safari address bar. And concerning wrapping a URL in <>, I was under the impression that (a) most people don't, and that (b) it's only seriously advised when a URL is long enough that it's likely to wrap (which this one wasn't).

OK - looks like this needs scoping out on the Usenapp forum.

Anyway, this is a side-issue.

With right and left angle brackets in place, a url that’s one character longer than the one you posted would have wrapped on my screen. Not everyone uses a wide screen.

You raised it, we’re just helping to get it sorted.

I dunno. I have a grudging admiration for folk who always look for the good in other people, no matter how much they're demonised by other countries.

Foolish, probably. Laudable, definitely.

Well, you're going to find good in the general populace, mostly. But when it's known that a given government has form for kidnapping foreign tourists for political reasons, you might imagine that avoiding the country that the goverment controls could be a wise policy.

I see that they have been charged with spying which as far as Iran goes that was an inevitability. It just goes to show an education and qualifications do not guarantee common sense. Getting them released is going to cost and use up a lot of diplomatic time, there should be some sort of pay back for putting yourself in harms way.

"they probably "thought they were going to be going on an adventure"."

Of course they might actually be real spies who got careless .
