OT: A drop in the ocean?

The latter is called 'subsistence farming'; T r o l l had never heard of it last time I mentioned it. It is the least efficient use if agricultural land - if it was given over to industrial-style farming, there would be so much food about we could afford to spare some land for the production of supplements to support the virtue-signalling lifestyle of vegans. At present, those supplements contribute to the world food crisis by taking land away from the production of food.

You need to check your facts and stop making arm-waving, unfounded remarks, or believing XR's Marxist crap. Of all the species that have ever existed on this planet, only about 2 percent are still about. For most of the time that man existed, the other 98 percent of species have been going extinct without any contribution from man's activities whatsoever.

Citing the few negative examples don't go any way near offsetting the positives, positives that are already impacting all of us and that have happened over the last few hundred years out of the millions of years we have all been here.

Why are you so blinkered that you choose to ignore the science around today? All of it agrees that a plant based diet would feed more people

*today* and the removal of livestock would allow the feeding of nearly another 200 Million people?

Only arrogant idiots try to defend their own personal misunderstandings as if they are fact.

Look at that graphic, if the average / global conversion rate from vegetable protein to animal protein (and as far from being all about protein) is 8.5% (it's actually nearer 4% for beef), then how much

*MORE* protein would we have to eat directly if we ate plant based foods directly ourselves???

For every 10kg of vegetable protein an animal eats, we get only 850g of animal protein back. How can that be viable or sustainable? [1]

Even if only 50% of the land the animals use, we can make use of for industrial agriculture ourselves, that's still more food than we have left after feeding 90% of it to animals first!

And that's ignoring the cruelty and pollution.

Talk about lunacy.

Cheers, T i m

[1] We synthesize the B12 vitamin and feed it to livestock (90% goes to livestock) to supplement the fact that the cobalt depletion in the ground these days means they would be B12 deficient otherwise. For the few percent of livestock that actually graze pasture these days (and they say it's 'Pasture grazed' when they are just finished on pasture after spending most of their lives in feed lots) they can seed the ground with cobalt for the livestock to then eat when they graze.

Unfortunately, we can't absorb the B12 from the meat protein easily ourselves but can more readily absorb the B12 from the supplements, making it far more sense for us to take the supplement directly, as most of us already do in all the foodstuffs that are already fortified with it (especially the food marked as suitable for vegans).

However, B12 deficiency is far from a vegan issue and is widespread across all populations, especially amongst the old who can't metabolise B12 (especially from meat) as well as they could when young.

This should be interesting!

Oh, it's not interesting, it's just more FED and BS, especially considering the devious Goblin said he wouldn't reply to me again. ;-(

I don't know, ask yourself as you just made it up!

See above?

That would be 'harvesting time' then?

See above.

And?

Why would it need to be done by hand FFS?

See, as soon as you prod weirdo's like this Squeaker Goblin they come out with all sorts of crazy BS!

Yes there are probably too many people in the world but I suggested

*nothing* about forcibly (or otherwise) reducing the numbers, just agreeing that fewer numbers would be a good idea.

I haven't said anything about using machines to plant or harvest crops so f*ck knows what that's all about!

All this because he wants to carry on torturing and killing animals, drinking the pus filled lactate of a different species and eating chicken periods.

And he thinks I'm weird!

I'd have thought that people /really/ worried about mass extinction ought to be demanding increases in expenditure on means to detect and deflect asteroids and comets. But that would not fit the anti-science prejudice of supporters of XR.

Who the f*ck is 'XR? You would think I would know if I'm supposed to believe whatever you say they are saying? Plus, everything I say on this here can (and often is) cited, unlike ALL of your counter bs.

See, again, because you are just a weasel troll, you twist what I have said to suit your own goals. None of it distracts from what I said and when it meant.

What, the dinosaurs does before we got here ... no s*it Sherlock.

And that's all that matters to you isn't it, 'us' as in mankind, not 'us' as in all the other animals that inhabit this earth or the earth itself.

formatting link

Yup, along with the extinction of several species of animal, directly down to us.

How many new species have we introduced, that would want to be here I mean?

formatting link
And what was the driver behind many of these extinctions? Yup, 'meat'.

"Since the 16th century, humans have driven at least 680 vertebrate species to extinction, including the Pinta Island tortoise."

Troll Spike. You are like a sniper using bollox for ammunition.

Cheers, T i m

eXtinction Rebeellion -= read your newspapers.

That's BS. You spout unfounded opinion *as if* it were *fact*

No, it doesn't detract from what you said, because what I wrote totally obliterates it.

Ah, I've now got you down from *many* to *several*, so at least you're moving in the direction of fact and away from fantasy.

. OT. You were, like the XR you've never heard of, talking about extinction.

Nope. Usually, it's an inability to adapt.

So what you're saying is that you don't know how many species have become extinct without man's help.

Quite a lot of it was made by you, so thanks for admitting you are talking bollox.

QED

You're trying to egg him on, aren't you.

Not even fish, etc?

<snip>

So, you aren't bothered then, specifically if we could be the cause of and therefore could also prevent it? The earths early destruction a foregone conclusion?

Yeah, like any likely expenditure is *ever* going to actually be a real defence against that?

Ah, the 'supporters of XR', that bunch of loonies and jobless wasters?

Daughter went to an Animal Extinction rally in London recently that ran in parallel with an XR one, just to see what such would be like and to be able to get a better picture of their views, goals and opinions (you know, on_the_ground research, like any genuinely interested person would do). She said it was all very peaceful, people (Protesters and the Police) all chatting away normally. They did their thing and then came home.

The other day she was talking to someone who was at one of the anti-Murdock protest / blockades.

1) All was peaceful and again, the Police (being Police and citizens themselves) unofficially agree with the goals. 2) The really funny bit was one of the workers, wanting to leave but couldn't was swearing and shouting and then (as the likes of you and they inevitably do) shouted to one guy, 'Why don't you get a f'ing job', to which the guy replied ... 'I'm an f'ing electrician' (I'll leave the readers to determine if that constitutes 'a job' or not). ;-)

So, 'ordinary people' taking time off work to protest for something they feel strongly about, something that when it actually happens (and it generally does) changes the world for the better ...

Cheers, T i m

Yeah, worked it out since. Extinction does start with an X so I didn't work it out straight away and more importantly, am no follower.

Bwhaha ... the very thing many of them were protesting against because of how much BS they spread that many fall for! ;-)

I have *never* bought a newspaper and the few I've found and read on the train were enough to tell me it was money saved.

I have spoken to enough people who's views and comments have been falsely represented in the hope of a good story to know to not believe most of it.

Cheers, T i m

So you say. The point being you rarely if even substantiate anything you try to counter with references.

Yes 'Spike', of course it does. <rolls eyes>

Many / several, would be close enough to anyone but a left brained troll, desperately trying to obfuscate the point.

And the opposite of extinction (and how much good Man had done) is introduction. See, yet *another* example of your total inability to follow the spirit of something (intentionally (troll) or otherwise (left brainer).

Like the buffalo I guess, to being shot to extinction. What, should they have evolved, ballistic armour?

So what you are saying that as a left brainer the actual number has more pertinence to the conversation (or distraction from the point more like) than the fact that *man* has been directly involved in the animal extinction. You are pathetic.

Aww bless, tries to turn it back on me ... and failing. How old are you OOI (genuine question). I'm thinking either 11 or 90.

p.s. If you aren't actually Rod (or the Rod bot, where is it btw?), you must be running on the same (weak) engine? ;-(

Cheers, T i m

Actually, I would be trying to get him to question his own actions, try to undo years of conditioning by the milk and egg industries.

It's difficult, I get it, I've been there remember and yes it does take a bit of time and effort to adapt and I believe it's worth it for so many reasons ... and something you may not be able to comprehend, , eg, not all for my own selfish reasons.

But do some research into what we are currently doing into the exploitation of animals, the consumption rate of the earths (food related) resources and the pollution of all sorts of areas to name but a few.

And irrespective of how much you try to argue the opposite, it is the way we will all be going because we have to. And look at nearly every industry traditionally earning money from the killing and exploiting animals, they are all clambering to get onto the 'Plant based' 'Meat free' wagon because *they* are *way* ahead of you.

Personally, I prefer to be part of the solution, not a continuing part of the problem. You of course will do whatever you want to do because your world revolves around you.

Cheers, T i m

You should get out more.

No, not at the industrial levels we have and it's sorta their place to do so! ;-)

What I mean is, the world is currently populated by 60% livestock versus 36% humans:

... and all that waste has to go somewhere and much of it ends up in the rivers (livestock waste washed out from fields or overspill from vast storage ponds on feed lots) or us dumping untreated sewage directly into the rivers and oceans around the world.

Presumable the oceans were and have been a stable sub-eco system for millions of years but it's only since the advent of man AND nearly twice the number of livestock (than humans) this waste problem has become so big.

And the point because many of these systems are closed (we only have one 'sea' or 'atmosphere it may not need much past a certain threshold to tip them over the edge.

A slightly obscure example. A woman was trying to work out after many years eating the same (she thought), started to very slowly gain weight. When her daily intake was reviewed, it turns out she liked Walnut Whips, and at one point started eating two a day rather than one. So, if that to the net calorie intake over expenditure to more than 'balanced', then 'of course' she would put on weight. Has she not stopped (then maybe gone back to one / day) she could have died.

I believe many things we are doing could impact us the same way and we would be advised to catch them before it was too late.

So, for example there are *millions* of dairy cows around the world, that not only are being tortured (most people wouldn't want to knowingly support that) for us to consume their lactate (weird?) when many alternatives are available that cause less pain and use less water and space, if we could deal with that alone it would reduce the greenhouse gas issue by an amount we would find hard to do by cutting back on mush else?

Greenhouse gasses are a problem and that could be a simple solution.

OMG

By You Tube. Don't make me laugh.

I don't do You Tube.

You've been caught out again.

Google Translate couldn't make sense of that.

Make up your mind, and let us know what you settle on.

When you can put this mysterious 'spirit' into words, perhaps we'll understand what you are talking about.

Type "is the Buffalo extinct" into your favourite search engine. See if it agrees with you.

And?

I don't believe you're capable of learning anything. You just like dishing out commands to others around you. And if they don't conform you call them left brained.

You're thinking? Makes a change from knee-jerking and You Tube.

I rest my case.

In reality you just want to impose your vegan diet on others. You don't care about animal welfare.

On 07/09/2020 14:19, T i m wrote, in response to a statement about rivers:

I hear the sound of moving goalposts again.

I see the signs of a left brainer troll again. ;-(

This & your other answer are simply too much bs & at times lunacy for me to be motivated to spend time on. A bit of discussion, fine. Half an hour of mostly junk per round, nah.

Claiming I stand for a,b,c,d,e when I don't doesn't exactly make your junk more credible.
