One wonders if the CO2 cost of the materials, construction, and demolition (including transportation) were ever offset by the savings made over its lifetime, given the drawbacks inherent in wind generators.

These things have been calculated and recalculated interminably! The results rather depend on the affiliations of those doing the calculation. Surprise, surprise! Plenty to choose from here

There seem to be an awful lot of them around the world. Given their 'drawbacks'.

Why isn't this government stopping more being installed? They don't have to worry about the so called green vote anymore.

What 'savings made over its lifetime' would those be, then?

Very few of the wind farms in the UK would have been built without the NFFO obligation subsidy which all electricity users have been paying.

Why would they want to decomission the base? They will probably erect a new machine on it.

I dunno. but when a nuclear power station is decommissioned they insist on green field

One law for wind....

Quite, although I don't object to any technology receiving a subsidy in its early stages as a form of pump priming. But it will be interesting to see how many wind farms get rebuilt when they reach the end of their working lives, and when subsidies are no longer available because the technology is considered 'mature'.

True. All those wind fuel remnants are just as dangerous as radio active material.

They will simply outlaw everything else .... as they already have done effectively with coal and are trying hard to do with nuclear.

Who would 'they' be, oh sage?

The EU? The US? China? Martians?

So you're not sure who makes laws in this country. Here's your first hint: it's not martians.

Then I'd suggest the country votes in a government that makes the laws it wants.

Isn't that the argument you use when anyone disagrees with the policy of a government you support?

Well better keep the Gas else it won't be much fun;(..

What came of that Rolls Royce modular nuclear that would have done well all those skilled staff they made redundant - so sad:(

I had to look thru some planning applications the other week for a telecoms mast there are a couple of wind farms nearby, seems that no one wanted them apart from the landowner!, but they were all overruled by the planning inspectorate!

The joke is that the planners tuned down a slimline telecoms mast that you'd hardly notice from most anywhere they wanted it 17.5 meters the planners said No way!, you can have 15 metres!!

Windmills 125 Metres to the blade tip, no problem!!

UK Windmill output right now 1.8 GW or 6% of UK demand..

In article snipped-for-privacy@davenoise.co.uk>, Dave Plowman (News) snipped-for-privacy@davenoise.co.uk> scribeth thus

Which if they buried the stuff as they should or ought, then it wouldn't be a problem..

RR were still on the list at the back-end of last year

Different division tony. They went from gas turbines, not the nuclear division
