I have this old-ish Logitech M180, which accidentally acts up, that is, the left button sometimes doesn't work.
I open it apart and spray some compressed air, unplug and replug the receiver, nothing.
Then, maybe 30 minutes later, it start working again.
Time to bin it or is there anything else I can do?
Bin it they are not that dear to replace and stops all the frustration trying to make it work.
Absolutely. If a new battery doesn't make it work its time to buy *two* more, so that when the next one goes you still have a mouse to buy another one with online. no 2 mouse can be USB if you are cheapskating
Yep, my scrollwheel has recently started making noises like a dolphin click/squeak ... I take that as a sign it's going to die soon and it's time to pay the next instalment of logitech tax ...
The switches wear out after xxx,000 clicks and become erratic. I've re-switched mice that use a microswitch and a laptop touchpad that used a tactile membrane switch - made them as good as new. They're usually easy to desolder once you've got inside and the switches are often fairly generic and easy to get hold of.

One could swap left & right and see if the problem moves, or not. I'd be surprised if the mouse didn't use the same switch on both sides...

I had the switches on a Kingston trackball fail around 12 months ago. I finally got around to replacing the switches a couple of weeks ago, only to find that while the switches work, the trackball doesn't. I've looked into it and it seems it is a common problem and the trackball needs a firmware update. However the software to update it won't run on Windows
