Ha ha! When you read the blurb that justifies a move away from Cows milk, you find an enormous figure for the water required to produce one litre! This has to be the rainfall on a days grazing rather than that used by the dairy operation and ignores the actual 25L or so produced per day.

Still, you were always one step ahead of me. I have been wondering why my orange juice bottle tops have been breaking when I unscrew them. I hadn't even twigged they were supposed to be tethered.

I saw that, but not having come across those bottle caps, I really hadn't much of a clue, what it was about. Lidl recently began selling juice in the bottles, so I attempted to find the thread, to see what it was all about, but failed in that quest. Now I have seen some examples, what is the purpose?

My bottles and caps have long been recycled. However, the new, attached caps are a pain, getting in the way of drinking from a bottle or flipping into the way when pouring. My wife ends up pulling them off completely, but as she has physical problems, she struggles and often ends up with them pinging off, as she can't grip them properly. She can't get down to pick them up either, so they end up totally separated from the bottles and missing. The end result is that the bottles can't be squashed and kept flat with the lid on and neither will fit in the recycling.

That’s what I do: unscrew new cap, cut the retaining strap, throw away cap and retainer, re-use old cap from pre-retainer times.
