Once again the time has arrived to reseal around the shower tray ... as usual small movement of the tray causes the seal to fail - a plastic 'coving' with flexible edge strip.
This is the 3rd time it's failed.
Today came across a really well thought out system, this is a 2 part moulding the lower part is rigidly fixed to the tray, this is in essence L shaped, and the outstand is fitted behind the top section which can be glued to the wall or direct to old tiles.
On a new build you would fix to the shower first and tile form top of the upper extrusion. The big advantage is that this 2 part seal allows up to 10mm of movement ... and uses no silicone, it is supplied with a purpose designed adhesive. The blurb - pushes the point that the 2 part design allows free movement without any stress on the adhesive ... and as you guys know, it is the flexing of shower trays that causes the silicone grip to the tiles to breakdown,
It also has corner pieces to suit. The adhesive is a pressurised cartridge an the formulation is such to fix firmly to all types of tiles & shower trays. The 2 extrusions also have an adhesive 'strip' to hold everything in place while the adhesive cures.
The product has been awarded the "DTI Smart Innovation Award" and the "Invention of the year award"
The system is not cheap .. will be fitting over the weekend, if it don't fail it will be worth it. On my new build - I have gone for cast stone trays, and no tiles ... so shouldn't get this problem in the future.
The name is TELESEAL 10, it comes in 12 colours
