New Set Top Box (Update)

Very many thanks for all the comments and suggestions regarding replacing our old non HD Sky box.

In the end I took what seemed to be the logical and easiest option, purchasing Freesat's own 4K TV Box, not least because it appears to accept a range of LNBs, and I have no idea what type we have.

Box arrived promptly, all plugged in and away we went. Impressed myself by connecting it to our Wi-fi, although Netflix would not work. Having read that new boxes can take a while to update, I tried again the following day, and sure enough, Netflix worked. Even used my phone with the on screen bar code!

One small niggle, which is probably me missing something. Living in Aberdeenshire, my default BBC1 channel is Scotland, which is OK, but there does not seem to be an alternative channel for BBC London. The only way, as far as I can see, is to delete the postcode after which BBC1 defaults to London, but without a channel to view BBC1 Scotland. There must be a better way to change BBC1 than keep inserting or removing a postcode?

Sometimes you can find additional channels in the very high numbers (easiest if you go backwards from BBC1).

Cheers

Yes, all in the 700 or 800 range.

Actually, the regional channels start at 951 (at least here, where my local BBC1 is London, on 101). I get BBC Scotland on 946. In Scotland, the situation is probably reversed.

I was one who suggested the Freesat box. There are many options and neat ways of doing things, and it does take a little getting used to - but I'm generally very pleased with it.

However, it does have one or two slight quirks. In particular, when starting to watch the beginning of a recorded programme, if you decide to skip immediately forward in time it occasionally loses the recorded channel and reverts to whatever the currently tuned live channel is. The 'fix' seems to be to wait about 10 seconds before skipping forward.

Found, thank you. There appear to be all manner of BBC options up in the 950s range.

Me too. Found the full manual online, and gradually getting the hang of it. Today's triumph was pairing the Freesat remote with the TV :-)

Another useful feature of Freesat boxes is being able to see what is recorded add new Record instructions etc from the FreesSat mobile phone App. I find this useful when going through the TV guides in the newspaper, if you have the TV in a different part of the house, or someone recommending a show while away from home.

Isn't that werer the pron lives?
