"Cold" because of the reduced thermal mass. The building has a lower reservoir of heat, cools down more quickly, needs a bigger heat source to be able to track the heat lost. This is assuming the same U-values can be obtained.

"noisy/clanky/echoing".

For the same reason that bells are made of metal not bricks and mortar.

And ...

I can't think of any startling successes 30 - 50 years after they were built.

The ones that failed affected the confidence of the people who lend the money that builds houses.
