"National energy checks" Scam 01422 734095

Just had a phone call from 01422 734095 and someone who sounded like he was from sarf lunnon, *and* eating his dinner at the same time, said "Hello this xxxx, There are National energy Checks taking place in xxxxxx next week"

Swiftly told him to Foxtrot Oscar and hung up.

Anyone else getting calls from this number ?

It'll be spoofed. I used to get these weekly, although they seem to have stopped for the moment.

I've had a few calls blocked by my system, from a variety of numbers over the past week. The number which shows, is often a spoofed number, rather than the actual number, sometimes they spoof it to show what appears to be the same STD code as you are on, making you more likely to assume it is a genuine local caller.

Various "Who called me?" sites have reports saying that number is a problem, so it may not be spoofed. If it is then they are spoofing the same number repeatedly.

Various online remarks about Indian accents might indicate the callers are based there.

Another scam that's now doing the rounds is about the £150 fuel refund.

Instead of just reducing the council tax by £150 the wisdom of those in charge was to issue bills for the full amount and then at the end of April return the £150 by DD to the same account the council tax was taken from. For those who don't pay this way the council will have to spend a fortune paying by other means.

Net result is that the scammers now pretend to be from your local council and need your bank details to pay the £150!
