Don't know about others but...I've found me local plumbers merchant far cheaper than the sheds.

I have two other sheds in my locality with the same cubic building size and are a lot cheaper than B&Q.

You're probably right, I just have a problem walking into a place with no prices on display.

Every time I do a big job (£100's at least) my joiner goes to his "friend" at the local timber yard (he uses two of the most popular amongst tradesmen very regularly) that gives him that "special just for you" discount for a quote. Builder Centre have been at least 20% cheaper over the last couple of years, and I was just walking in paying cash off the street....

My local B&Q warehouse is cheaper for most basic building materials than two trade only places nearby, and all merchants within 5 miles. Only wickes comes close

Its not just about a single lightbulb either. Being open at 9PM has helped many people I know in numerous emergencies, and having a wide product range saves on touring about

Same here. I went to a local electrical discount wholesaler with a mate who knew the guy serving and he got 'maximum discount'. The prices were marginally cheaper than Screwfix, B&Q etc but unless you're a mate of the counter staff or already have a fixed agreement they are more expensive. Similar experiences with many Builder's merchants and the attitude of some staff isn't exactly inviting. Till that changes DIYers will go where they are welcome.

My local branch of TLC *is* a 'shop' with free parking *and* you get served by a knowledgeable assistant. Ok - it doesn't open on Sunday or as late as B&Q. Big deal.
