main isolating switch

Got Seeboard (contractor) coming next week to change my Elec. meter, what's the chances of getting the bloke to connect to an isolating switch If ive already bought it and screwed it on the wall while he's got the company fuse out.

Ask him - you never know ...

For what its worth where we live the meter changing guys are not electricians and was operating on an incredibly tight schedule so I would not be too optimistic ... but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Blimey, I was betting on H&S being an issue here. Ok so how much can I sue Seeboard for having to remove a dead meter-man from under my stairs.

A beer voucher normally helps in these instances!

Call Seeboard back and ask if he can fit an isolator at the same time ?

They will probably supply and fit one for free.

If it's a reasonably modern meter the meter swap involves no handling of tails (live or dead), as the meter plugs onto a base that has all the cable connections.

No its one of the old spinning wheel type, and their idea to change it. I was just hoping to save a few bob by getting then to fit an isolator at the same time. BUT Seeboard won't fit one for free, already asked ;-(

Varies from one to the next. I've been trying to get one fitted (FOC preferably) so I can then rewire the whole place downstream of the CU. (Being a good boy and not yanking the main fuse.) It must have taken me a week and 25 phone calls to find the right person to speak to - unbelievable - but finally I managed it to find someone who admitted responsibility; and was advised that it would cost 85 quid plus vat to do this! I think your best bet is to ask the guy when he's there and hope he's in a good mood... (in my case I've got a tame sparks coming in to fit my new CU for me; I'm hoping it will be less painful.)

I'm normally a good boy, but I still yanked the main fuse! I even changed the tails at the meter end. The new CU was a little bit further away, so I needed new tails.

I even keep a spare fuse nearby, which is even more naughty. But then it is only a 60A cutout.

Christian.
