lots of gas

Hi there

I have just doen a meter reading - last one was in September. It woul appear that I have used about 1,300 units in those 3 months.

I have GCH and a gas hob, but that's it gas-wise. Bearing in mind i was a mild winter and the CH is on a timer, this sounds like a lot especially considering the £310 quid they want to charge me.

This sounds like a lots to me. The house is Modern (1985), 4 beds an very standard and far from huge. Do I just swallow this.....or coul there be soemthign amiss??

Thanks for any advice

Ale

You don't give enough information about your gas use to answer this.

For example, how much gas you should use depends on the insulation of your property (my similarly aged house had very poor insulation). You don't say how much it is heated and to what temperature and if any residents have annoying habits like turning the heating on and opening the windows. Do the radiators have TRVs? How old is the boiler? Is there a room thermostat? How is the hot water heated? What sort of insulation is on the hot water cylinder?

My 4 bed detached house uses £260 a year gas for cooking and hot water and central heating and thats using 2-3 showers a day. My boss went from a older

3 bed property to a modern well insulated 5 bed house and gas bills went down from from £35 and month to £25, so efficiency of the property (and boiler) make a huge difference.
