I don't seem to notice that, I have one "stun" rule just marks the message as read and another "kill" rule that ignores the entire subthread. This does sometimes confuse the unread message count for a group, but I just treat that as handy feedback that the rules are doing their job.
What action do you have for the rule?
"Delete message" - which is the default for a new rule when I set one up. Only a small number of people/sources have qualified for this - so it is not something I regularly set up.
Doing "ignore subthread" would probably work better for those. (or simply "mark as read")
Yeah, that would probably cause a split thread if anyone else replies to the killee.
It appears fairly random whether it splits the thread or not.
