Loo ventilators

I'd like to install a Ventaxia Solo TM2 into a loo in our house. This upstairs loo just has the toilet and a small double-glazed window. Normally I'd want to put the TM2 above the window, but that would put a hole straight through the vertical set of bricks that are over the window opening.

Are there any regs that say that such a fan should be high up / out of reach / etc? Otherwise I might consider having it near the floor to the side of where the soil pipe exits the loo through the wall.

No regulations, apart from the fan must be suitable for its location i.e. consider whether it might get splashed (or even 'splashed')

Alternatively if it's an upstairs can you go up into the loft, across and down through the soffit?

'Up' would tend to be where all the hot steamy air was...

Not sure what the effect of pumping out the cold air at the bottom might be. Might at least make the draught a bit less bracing!

Do they make ones that fit in the double glazed window itself?

Mind you, if said double glazed window opens, would you really need the fan as well?

Would a dehumidifier keep you warmer than pumping all that nice centrally heated air outside: would it be more or less energy consuming overall?

Currently I'm soaking up the excess condensation with a line of old bog roll cardboard tubes on the window ledge: the fan's very cold and draughty...

More questions than answers, but ones I have occasionally spent idle moments considering.

Instead of a plain vent fan talk to this lot. They have a very good heat exchange extractor system that isn't that expensive for the type you need. The air being extracted warms the air coming in and also reduces condensation due to cold air effects. No connection with them other than their unit backs on to one I used to work in. Ah, this might be worth considering. Thanks.

Hot steamy air? What hot steamy air? This is a loo, not a bathroom.

No, I think they're explicit that it'll only fit in single-glazed.

Well it does, but then you have to remember to close it later.

There. is. no. steam. this. is. a. loo. not. a. bathroom.
