I have a similar ladder; not the same as yours, but it has a similar design of clip as yours. I agree with NT that a bathroom bolt would work almost as well.
However, I happen to have the manufacturer's details of mine if it's any help to you (my ladder came from B&Q I think):

My loft ladder was, and has spring-loaded catches that will lock into cut-outs in the other ladder in the telescopic assembly, when pulled to the right extension and again when retracted. website
