Limit master socket to give only BroadBand??

Son shares his flat with four others. The original deal was to share the br oadband costs but not to have a phone connected so that there would be no t elephone call charges. This arrangement has been abused so he wants to find a way of making sure no one can plug a phone into the master socket. The m aster socket has separate phone and BB outlets

Would filling the phone outlet with Araldite work? Or does it conduct elect ricity so it might short circuit the line voltage??

If filling it works then we plan to fit replace the screw on the face plate with high security ones.

Or is there a better way?

Who ever is abusing the phone line, will also abuse the broadband with who knows what.

Have your son pull out of the share and get a 3G stick for himself.

Tsk, students ...

The BB is an unlimited package so there's not a problem with that.

I find it hard to imagine living like that. And there's nothing you can do to stop the determined thief. Surely your plan will fail when whoever it is pops into the pound shop for a set of security bits.

Maybe a steel plate with a single hole for the broadband to fix atop the face plate with security screws. Fill the security screw recesses with Araldite when it's fixed.

Virgin Business BB deal with no phone line at all ?

Speak to phone provider and make it incoming calls only ?

You used to be able to get locking covers for this purpose.

If the flatmates can't be trusted to not plug a phone into a socket, they can't be trusted not to undo security screws or try to "tap" the wires elsewhere.

Who is the line rental/calls provider?

Ask for the number to be made incoming only. Use VoIP if required.

Job done.

Restricting socket access will not work - easy to plug a phone into the broadband socket where it will work !

The phone socket provides voice phone connection via a filter The broadband connection is unfiltered and can provide broadband and phone connection.

Agree with earlier post that getting an incoming only line is best idea.

If you modify or damage the master socket you will get the company, assumedly BT very annoyed indeed. At least that is my experience, as its not your property to tamper with.

Don't they charge you for line rental anyway? Brian

Change to Broadband only contract.

You do know that the broadband port is still a phone line and you just need an RJ to phone socket adapter to plug a phone in? If they put a filter in the adapter then the broadband would still work (unless its right at the edge now and the extra filter breaks it) while they used the phone.

Ask the phone company to make the line incoming calls only.

Get a similar phone package? Unless they're phoning abroad. Or just get them to use Skyp.
