Not how to as such but wife has got retangular floor and wall tiles for shower room. I never thought before but is it best to lay them brickwork fashion or inline above one another?

The only difference is cosmetic. Which does she prefer?
Which ever way she tells you to:-)
That of course will be the final decision :-) but what do you reckon looks best.
I agree with your wife's final decision and I have no opinion:-)
What would you prefer?
Say you preferred the brickwork pattern. So just tell her that you like the inline tile on top of tile - she will disagree with you and demand that you tile a brickwork pattern.
You then do what "she says":-)
Is the right answer....
Diagonal, brickwork :)
If you go with brickbond, make sure you get them very flat as any lippage will be obvious when you have 2 corners referenced against a straight edge. Lining up the grout lines does tend to hide small amounts of lippage.
Or herringbone. Or basket weave. If you want to baffle her.
Why ask us? You will have to follow orders anyway.
