Laminate back panels & flue gases

anyone know if I can allow flue gases from a gas fire to come up against this laminate back panel? Or, does the panel have to be backed at all points of it's surface by brick/plaster/the wall? Of course flue gases just want to go up chimney from the gas fire, but if back panel if not entirely backed by brick/plaster of course flue gases will come up against the laminate. TIA.
