I need to join a circular 68mm hose to a 110mm hose - any ideas - is there any adaptors I can get from a local DIY merchant?

Hose implies pressure so I'd be very wary of offering advice without more information about the application and the materials in use. A drainage adaptor may fit your needs but that would have serious pressure limitations so more information please.
