Ipod battery replacement

My daughters ipod needs its battery replaced as it only holds the charge for a couple of hours maximum. Has anyone actually carried this out?

I know there are literally thousands of tutorials on the net and it looks straight forward but I'd rather have some feedback from someone who has actually carried this out.

Its an iPod Mini if it makes any difference.

Yep, I've done it on a Mini once. Got mine from an ebay seller called uk-ipod-repairs - it's a bit fiddly but their instructions were clear and I got it done with no problems.

Thanks David, I'll maybe give it a go. Did you get the higher capacity battery and does it last longer? Cheers

Can't remember I'm afraid: this was about 2 years ago - was my daughter's ipod, and she lost the bloody thing about a week after I'd fixed it!

I did a mini a few months ago (it was my son's old one that he graciously gave me, then I found the battery was completely useless).

I umm-ed and ahh-ed, just like you are at the moment. Eventually I sat down to do it and was finished in about 5 minutes, all done and dusted, and no sign it had been opened. The new battery has been fine, but I've no idea how it compares with the old one.

The one thing I made sure of was having a very thin blade (I used a scalpel, but a snap-off knife might be OK), to get under the cap on the end without wrecking it.

Good luck!

IIRC the one I bought off ebay included the requisite tools for the job

Thanks all. I ordered one and replaced it this morning. 5 minute job. What a difference it appears to have made to the battery time.
