Back to normal this morning!

Something was happening between 7.00pm Saturday and at least 8.00pm Sunday which shut my router down to sub 0.25Mb speeds. Back up to normal this morning. The chances of Open Reach looking at the line during the event seem remote:-(

Have you started it off pinging something? ( google, bbc, etc) just leave it doing its graphs, we can intrerprest later, e.g. if there's step-change in response times, or a red block of no responses when you notice changes on the line.

Make sure the pingplotter machine won't sleep.

So that is what the target list is for!

I did listen to the instruction videos but Greek would have been easier.

What counts is that it will mean something both to us here and to your ISP. And stop you wasting time on Windows issues.

It isn't. What IS to you is to provide irrefutable evidence to the ISP that the problem lies in the Openreach LINE and it still is ongoing.

Think of it from their perspective. A customer keeps complaining and Openreach have been twice - maybe it's the customers problem not Openreach's? Fob the customer off.

You need to stop that kind of nonsense by producing irrefutable evidence that it's the link between your router and the DSLAM that is dodgy.

They can look at the DSLAM stats from their end. They can't look at your router stats.

WAN is what you want.

Tucked away... Down 9.1dB up 26.3dB now. At 3.48 am it was 12.8 and 7.3. It has been 3.7 and 23.

Sadly the record does not cover the serious low speed on Sunday.

Right. That is showing massive fluctuations then. 3.7dB is below usability.

9.1dB shows your connection COULD be 50% faster., around 5-6dB is where the speed is on the limit.

Do you also have attenuation and connection speed? There is a direct relations between SNR and speed - as speed goes up the signal to noise will drop. Line quality is really the product of them,·

Anyway if there is a way to download all that to your computer, do so, and send te file to the ISP.

It's pretty clear to *me* that you still have an outstanding line issue.

As an instantaneous value, that 26.3dB is huge, I'd expect the router to keep bumping the speed up, until the SNR drops down to about 3.0dB, but maybe the dynamic line management in the exchange has got confused, BT chappie ought to be able to request a reset?

Ping Plotter shows a latency of 780mS over a 5 minute period at 12.45am today.

I think the first engineer got someone at the exchange to do that. He said the line was capable of 17Mb. Before all this started I had 13Mb very reliably.

My agricultural view is that there is a little used line in contact with ours leading to the major drops.

A symptom you see on ADSL when there is no filter (micro or faceplate) in place on the installation, is that the ADSL will often lose sync when a call is made on the phone. It is usually the transition from hook to off hook (or vice versa) that causes the drop rather than the presence of voice traffic. However I have only see that when the filter is missing on the actual ADSL line...

I suppose you could test by listening to your land line on a "quiet line" test (dial 17070 and choose from the voice menu), and then phoning the neighbour on your mobile. You would likely hear a disturbance on your line if there was an issue like you describe.

It is quite common to have high uplink SNR. The issue is the downlink. That should run more or less at 4-6dB, varying day to night.

9dB is indicative of the router having been bumped down to a lower speed due to a burst of interference.

The fact that Tim has a 'crackle' on the line says it all to me. There should be at most a faint hiss from the broadband, and possibly a very slight hum from mains pickup. No crackles. Not ever.

Elderly chair bound lady. I would need to be sure there was somebody younger available to answer. Perhaps send my wife there to call their landline. All very speculative as there are at least 14 overhead connections in this lane.
