I'd use what I have as my text message alert.
A Benjamin Horn klaxon.

The beeping sound made by vehicles reversing could be made the same as the beeping sound made at pedestrian crossings to indicate that it's safe to cross. I'm sure that would help the bling person waiting a crossing alongside the mobility jockey manoeuvring his mode of transport into position to use the same crossing.
I heard, maybe apocryphally, that at a pedestrian crossing near a railway station, a person with vision problems mistook a train door close alarm for the pedestrian crossing signal.

What's the matter with the sound of a traditional electric vehicle - a trolleybus - and yes, they did make a sound - and still do, as a visit to Sandtoft will demonstrate:
If anyone can remember the Not the Nine O'Clock News comedy programme of yesteryear:-
Rowan Atkinson's digital watch alarm went off and is was mistaken by a blind person for the pelican crossing pedestrian green light indicator.
A wish list for too many audio safety features could actually make the world less safe for the disabled.
How about using that recently invented system called 'language' for messages like these? :-)
Yes, I know there would be overseas visitors who might not understand but they'd still get the noise (as they do at present).
It's like the universally [un]understandable icons we have on so many things now which appear to have replaced our written language.
Because "caution! vehicle is reversing ... caution! vehicle is reversing" never gets annoying
That depends whose voice you use! :-)
I was crossing a road once and a nearby driver was setting off from parked, as he was looking over his shoulder he didn't see me, and as he wasn't indicating or making any sound I hadn't paid him any heed so very nearly got mown down.
That's why pedestrian crossings have a twiddly knob thing under the button box in most cases.
...when it hasn't been snapped off. I've often wondered if it's deliberate vandalism or small toddler looking up and being fascinated by the spinny-twirly thing.

Yeah. Tradition is great, I straddle my transmission tnnel and give the old girll a shrap tap with my heels to get her going and apply the brakes by pulling back on the steering reins...

I'd like my car to be silent most of the time, and sound like a Merlin when I put my foot down.
