How to remove sticky labels from dvds?

I have some dvds labelled with sticky white labels.

My laptop has a slot-loading optical drive and I don't want to use the dvds incase the labels peal off slightly and the disc gets stuck inside.

I've tried removing one of the labels by hand and it came off in pieces. I was maybe too gentle.

Any recommendations for getting them off?

Thanks.

If it's really such a problem, can you copy them to clean DVDs in a different drive?

One of the label remover sprays based on citrus oils. CPC do some, some of the supermarket ranges like stain devil also have some sticky stuff removers. Don't try anything that contains strong solvents in case you attack the plastic of the DVD

Or spin the DVD at 175x to see if the label stays on:

Maplin sell a Label Remover aerosol. I've used in on various plastics without any problems.

Hmm. I burned a load of DVD's for a relative from overseas before he came, and labelled them with post-it notes. In less than 24 hrs the glue had caused the coating to peel off with zero force wherever it had touched it. :-(
