How hard can it be?

I'm considering going into Curry's. My mouse has gone sick. I'm using the one from my work laptop at the moment, and it's horrible.

The point of Curry's of course it so try it for size!

I suppose I am the only person on this newsgroup that has got banned from Curry's.

Some years ago (when I was immature) they had a working PC with a scanner. I scanned my knob and created a new screen saver.

I agree, its even more the case for me. As I do not see the pretty pictures, I often find that cables are poorly described and often seem to not have a gender for one of the connectors either. Sometimes you find that they do not have anything about the usb type. I bought some usb psus recently, but had to then order some adaptors since they were usb c.

I also have a gripe about HDMI cables and their apparent centre of the universe approach to what you want them to do. IE I wanted mine to leave the audio on the computer and only move the video to the TV. No matter what combinations you set up in the set or windows, the only way to do it, in the end was to get a via adaptor and leave the audio lead unplugged. Sigh.

Problem is that if you go to a certain shop with World in its name, the quality is crap and all the stock is mixed up on the same hooks. I'm guessing this is the customer who also is confused. Also, why no analogue sound outputs on many tVs just ear, if you are very lucky and optical, and why when you select optical do you find streaming channels have no sound in the default settings but freeview does, but it to PCM/auto often works on both?Samsung are you listening? Might I suggest getting a wireless keyboard/ mouse from Logitech. I have several of thes now and everyone thinks they are great. The batteries last for ages. Brian

Lots of stories like that from the 80s, even the Spectrum with its naff graphics could be locked with dodgy screens showing and then you had to pll out the power to get rid of it. The old Atari 800xl was great since you could load in some pretty good screens and then hide it somewhere, then the reset button would not reset that memory, once again you had to remove power. Indeed there was a program you could load into page 6 fast from a cassette that was called paperweight. The machine would be happy running for maybe 10 minutes then captions would appear saying that in x minutes your computer would be converted to a paperweight after which bursts of noise and screen disruption would increase until the whole screen became white noise and so did the sound. the reset button was disabled. Very funny, but we youngsters did it all the time of course. In the end they used to glue in a cart game to stop it. Brian

Interesting. I have exactly the same problem with the MSFT Bluetooth mouse and when I mention it people look at me gone out.

Many mouses use a standard micro switch. Easy to replace.

I thought that they had all metamorphosed into "Currys" now ?

The PLC is no longer called Dixons-Carphone, now Currys.
