Help needed to find a cheap 12V light with PIR and light sensor

If you have 365/24/7 mains a non-maintained emergency light. Non-maintained = light is off while the mains is present (inbuilt battery is trickle charged). When the mains is removed the battery supplies the 3 to 5W LED light for approx 3 hours.

Similar available at a cheaper price from other retailers.

With many of these types of light which can be simply configured as non-maintained or maintained with a single wire link they can also be used as a switched light. The light requires a constant mains supply (live, neutral, cpc/earth) but can also have have a switched live -if referenced to the same neutral. This means that you can have a wall switch to switch on/off the light. The battery only runs the light if the permanent mains dies.

I would opt for the cheap and cheerful option. Something described as:

"Motion Sensor Lights Rechargeable 40 LEDs Wireless Dimming Indoor Night Light, Auto On/Off with Magnetic Stickers" is sold by Amazon for £6.57 each or £18.99 for 4

No wiring, and if the mains supply doesn't fail they should retain their charge for a very long time.

I'd be checking the small print and reviews on battery life carefully.

I've a few such things and the worst (from Temu) last only a couple of days. The best (Xiaomi, and unbranded bought several years back) last about 6 months. Lidl were selling one last week. Very bright and work well, battery life remains to be seen.

Yes, I have two of them configured just like that (one in the cupboard under the stairs where the consumer unit is, the other in the cupboard above the stairs where all the IT kit lives)

Seems strange that they sell them as separate "maintained" and "non-maintained" models, when the only difference is a loop of wire, and none of them seem to hint at replacing the loop with a switch ...

Thanks, that's almost exactly what I was looking for (but had failed to find). I don't care about the internal battery because I can make a 12-5 converter and run it from my (large) 12V battery.

Thanks, that's an interesting suggestion but I only want it to come on if there's someone in the room. I could add a PIR, but another responder has suggested something that is almost a perfect fit.

One of which was designed to hang inside a toilet bowl over the rim in he same manner as one of those loo cleaning blocks, which seems pretty gross but if you want a colour changing toilet bowl……. At about £3.00 a pop though I bought two , one I use not as intended but sat on a shelf, the other will be used to “sabotage” a mates loo. For a light intended for use with a toilet the instructions could have been written with a bit more car “The light will come on when motion is detected”.
