Heavy Duty Descaler

I remember asking this when I moved into my last house and I have the same issue again, the lower part of the toilet bowl is heavily scaled so hard to clean.There's loads of miracle cleaners available online of course, any suggestions?Interestingly many sites say use white vinegar, I don't know how that compares to a commercial product?Others say use white vinegar and baking powder but surely they would just neutralise each other?Thanks.

Well as I have discovered, in the main whether it be a pot toilet pan or bath, both end up rough either due to the cleaner or the hard water. You either live with it and just keep it clean, or fit a new one. Being averse to spending money, I'm told its all the rage these days, I decided to just clean what we could and live with it. sadly the bath is worse as being glazed enamel the shine has now gone from the normal water line down and into the bottom. I suspect the next thing will be the metal casting showing through. I doubt if these miracle re glaze your bath kits are much good. so we await with bated breath. On the toilet you can keep it white at least as far as you can reach, but eventually it will get into the pores and need replacing. Would water softeners work? I was told half the problem is that London's water is stored in a huge concrete ring main, and small particles of the material get into the water and act like sandpaper on more or less everything. At the moment you are choked by most heavy duty cleaners anyway, the one I have is like bad eggs mixed with drains. Brian

Total rubbish. I moved into a place and totally removed about 6lb of s*it crusted limescale using hammer chisele and acids and underneath was really nice white china

Top posted as Brian made a comment I want to follow up.

I got the HG de-scaling gel, seems a bit like Harpic de-scaler and about as effective. After several hours I made a solution of a pint of hot water and 6 x Oust de-scaler sachets and poured that on top of the HG stuff. Wow, that did it, clean as new - probably expensive though.

Brian suggested a replacement which makes good sense except this place is a bit of a time capsule. Built in 1983, Artex every where including the garage under the stairs and the garage and I'd like to keep it as it is. I even have Avocado suites up and down and they are classics :-)

Avocado or Pampas Green though ?.

Plenty of TV house 'experts' obviously don't know the difference.

Pampas Green is a much paler green than Avocado.
