Hi,
Got a floor-standing decorative lamp with a couple of halogen bulbs on it. Each of the bulbs is (or was rather) enclosed in a frosted glass tube as a protective shield, with a further decorative piece of frosted glass as a shade.
One of the bulbs exploded quite nastily last year, shattering the protective shield it was enclosed in. I'd like to use the lamp again, but at the same time I'd like to put some kind of shield back around the bulb - the explosion was pretty nasty, and I hate to think where the glass would have got to without the shield.
Lamp shop has been completely unable to get a shield from the lamp manufacturer. No surprise there, as it must be months and months old!
The shield is essentially a cylindrical glass tube 60mm long with an internal diameter of 25mm and a wall thickness a smidgen under 2mm. There's a hole near one of the ends for a fixing screw. Clear glass is fine - I'm not bothered about the frosting. Simple enough, but it seems pieces of glass tubing are hard to come by these days.
Does anyone know where it might be possible to get hold of something like this in the UK ? The internal diameter is the important bit as I can get the local glass shop to do any necessary cutting and drilling.
Failing that, is there any sort of heat-resistant clear plastic tubing which could be up to the job which anyone knows about ?
Thanks for any info,
