Generator Question (not strictly DIY)

It means after 5 hours it runs out of petrol and you've got to put some more in.

For sensitive equipment you're better off with the (yellow) Kipor inverter generators

I think you're going to need to define "silent" here. No generator is "silent"; they just come in a range from "bearable" to "OMG, the building is about to collapse".

It just means you need to refuel after 5 hours.

By "silent", I do mean one of the quieter ones, in the 50-60 decibel range.

This one also looks reasonable for the price. Im only going to be running it for a few days a month

I hope this stand is outside, as the exhaust fumes from your generator will have to go somewhere.

I have one of the Yellow Kipor KGE1000Ti Gens, and it works fine for this. I run a photography event-printing business, and have a fair bit of equipment running from it.

At the most recent one:

It coped with the load fine, and ran non-stop for 12 hours and used about 5l of fuel in that time. (With careful re-fueling while it's running!)

The "smart throttle" works well, and the engine speed changes to meet the current load.

As I'm getting towards the limit of the power this generator can provide, I'm about to buy the next model up in their range, so my 2 month old one is for sale if you're interested. I'm in Luton, Beds.

Can't you use batteries? They're usually pretty quiet or a generator & battery combination? I can't imagine the power needed for a computer is all that high.

Oh they are - we use them for location filming. But you won't buy one for a couple of hundred pounds. More like a couple of hundred thousand...

How much current are you drawing? A battery powered invertor is as near as dammit silent.
