Gas Cooker Repair/Maintenance

The cooker in question is decades old and is used infrequently. It is (dis)connected to a gas cylinder. This means I can contemplate working on it without great risk of blowing myself away.

The taps which operate the rings, oven and grill seem to have seized up in the last few months. (They were last used back in March or April!) These taps are of the usual sort which require to be pushed in in order to turn on or off and then spring out and operate within a low to high output range. The problem seems to be that several of them have jammed, not all, but the ones which have jammed do not completely switch off.

Could this be some sort of lubrication problem and if so what lubricant and how can it be applied?

[The cooker is only really used for boiling a kettle so no need to advise me to replace it rather than mess about - that is much in mind except the replacement would be a small urn. But it would be nice to retain the option of the oven.]

TIA Frank

Gas valves are assembled using special lubricants. They need to be stripped, cleaned up and new lubricant applied to the stem and seat.. Routine maintenance. Eg
