Friend recently had her 15 year old Fiat Panda stolen, recovered a couple of miles away and written off. Apparently stolen for recreation and/or early stage apprenticeship.

I've been using a generic one of these battery powered cameras near the front door:

for the last couple of years. The 6 month battery life is fanciful but I do get 2 months over winter, 1 charge is usually enough for summer. £42 each isn't too bad - I paid not much less than that for a no branded alixpress version.
One of the major problems is, of course, the 'toggle' nature of the remote. You can't tell whether you're asking it to open or to close. If there were separate 'open' and 'close' buttons it would eliminate all issues to do with multiple presses of the button and so on. The only thing it wouldn't fix is the issue where the limit mechanism re-opens the door.
Tbere are cars that are easy to steal and there are cars that are worth stealing. Mibne is neither
