G9 LEDs

I've got to get some more of these for the kitchen. The ceiling light fittings were designed for use with halogen bulbs, and I guess the LED G9 electronics in the bases get too hot over time and eventually fail.

Looking at the specs for a Screwfix G9 (

). Now that sort of temperature wouldn't be difficult to reach in a kitchen, so it's perhaps not surprising the G9 LEDs are stressed.

Having said that, half the current ones (supposedly 450+ lumens, but in fact probably nearer to 200) have survived for several years.

Anyone else got experience of G9 LEDs in "halogen" kitchen light fittings?

Mine are not flush mounted, but in stainless swivel housings and have lasted over ten years.

They are all shitty, useless things which don't last a minute. We have these awful wall lights in the living room - fittings with two glass crystal spheroids with a G9 bulb. Halogen or LED, they don't last long at all. I made the mistake of buying a G9 fitting for a bathroom too.

Lights are still often designed for halogen bulbs which are significantly shorter than LED replacements and so the LED is not centred in the shroud and so looks a bit wrong. Both get hot if the fitting doesn't have enough air or flow. They are a disaster.

I will never, ever buy a G9 fitting whether for halogen or LED, ever ever again.

Of all the LED bulbs available it?s the one that most closely resembles the mayfly.
