Fridge only, "integrated" "Whirlpool" ISTR - runs at about 14C, compressor comes on intermittently, not on all the time, it seems normal bar the temperature (although the interior light's packed up). 6 or 7 years old?
Any ideas?

Most likely the stat's faulty. Less likely the compressor is faulty, and overheats rapidly when fired up, tripping the thermal cutout.
