Can anyone tell me the name of a type of pump that is used in pressure washers and most aircraft hydraulic pumps?
It works on the principal of a rotating disk that is mounted on its drive shaft at an angle, so that it compresses short pistons mounted in a circle in which it rotates.

Andy gave you the correct name. They use swash plate pumps. Also found in car aircon compressors.

It looks like I have confused some on here with this description.
Imagine looking down at an open round casing that has a multiple of enclosed pistons, mounted vertically in a circle and connected to the fluid supply with an output from these to the outside world below them. If a piston is pressed down on, it will create pressure. Each piston can only provide pressure by being depressed downwards.
Now imagine if this casing is covered by another half casing, that doesn't have to be fluid proof, with the motor driven disc I described above spinning round and pushing the pistons in turn as it rotates, because its mounting is not at 90 degrees to the drive shaft.
Is this a better description?

And also to control the Bofors 40mm anti aircraft gun and an early Vickers motor car. Tilting the swash plate requires little energy but alters the output speed and direction smoothly.

From the link he gave me, this type of pump works by compressing a tube around the diameter of a casing, the pump I am going on about does not need a wall, or tube to work, just the pistons.
Just done a google and the wiki comes up with a diagram that is quite close to what I am on about.
Google hydraulic pumps and go to the wiki section a few answers down.
Scroll down until you get to the picture of the axial piston pumps. There is a diagram of a pump very similar to the one I want to find the name of. But the drive to this is from the back of the diagram, The one I am going on about is driven from the right with a variable angle circular rotating plate to operate the pump pistons. I admit that it uses a swash plate, but I would have thought it would have had another name.

Very close to what I wrote, but if this is the answer to my question, the pistons are stationary and the swash plate rotates. I think this might have been where my confusion came from.
