Fixing into Granite.

Look for 'shield anchor' in the Screwfix site. Hope you have a decent SDS drill - granite is hard. ;-)

Can't seem to see what size drill bit to use though. I have a Hilti Te-2 and a few batteries.

Is your 8 mm thread rod to go into the fixing 'cause those ones is 6 mm.

Drill size will probably be 10mm for a 6 mm bolt fixing. Look 'em up on the Fischer site?

Usually on the pack. Something like 10mm.

There are lots of makers of these type of fixings - I normally call them RawlBolts since they were one of the first. They take different sizes of bolts etc, so need different drill sizes too.

I would do a test drill somewhere inconspicuous before you get the cherry picker in. It's no joke drilling granite, only the very best diamond drills will touch it & you will likely need water cooling. If you have problems, you may have to drill into a seam. OR Many fixings I have seen into granite have been "built in", ie a block removed and a ragbolt cemented in.

car body filler sets in half an hour - faster if you use a shade more catalyst.

I have no problems drilling into granite, its not that bad, it just wears down the bits a bit quicker. I work in Aberdeen("Granite City") a lot, and there is granite everywhere...

Its about 750m between locations along a public road, I am starting early to get the work done early to get off the public road.

I live near Malvern. Lots of granite houses there. Never see any attempt been made to dress the stuff, they just use the quarried rubble with brick quions. Very hard stuff. Cheapo diamond drills wont look at it.

Obviously only low skilled labour there. Even the oldest houses in Aberdeen used dressed granite, where needed. Probably because of no local brick works.

BTW, an ordinary SDS drills it just fine. A hammer drill, not.

So how did the job work out?
