Firefox spell checker

I had an update issue with my recently bought Win10 system and trying to resolve that issue, I mucked Win10 up completely - which has ended with me doing a clean install.

One of the things I had was a spell checker, which underlined in red, any words not in it's dictionary, right clicking then offered the correct spelling - it was particularly usefull, but not I don't think restricted to Firefox. In other words it checked every word I typed, but I have forgotten what it was - I didn't need to call it up, it just worked invisibly. Anyone have any idea what it was?

I have Word 2019 already installed, if that makes a difference.

Firefox > tools > settings > general > scroll down to Language; click on the box 'Check spelling as you type'

Chris Hogg presented the following explanation :

That was what I tried first and it's not marking anything up at all. I tried it with two lines of gibberish.

Firefox > tools > addons and themes > dictionaries

Chris Hogg formulated on Monday :

After several attempts to get this working, including rebooting it a couple of times, it just mysteriously begen working on its own. Thanks..

Sometimes it will fail to load a default dictionary and then it does not work. Make sure that you can see British English in the selection box. If not (or if it is blank) then click the link to add one.
