Filling patches where a coat of emulsion has pulled off

When I remove wallpaper it's common for patches of the underlying emulsion to come off, which are then visible when painted. Over the years I've tried polyfilla and feathering the edges but it never seems very good. What do others do?

Recently someone recommended "Make Good" filler from SFix

Skim the bloody lot. Or put up with the differences between emulsion paint and lightweight filler filled craters.

I've used lining paper before but would prefer to paint on plaster

I have used Gyproc Easi-fill for years for fine surface levelling off. It's easy to apply and very easy to sand off to get it level with surrounding surfaces. I don't use it for filling deep holes, but will still use it for the final 1-2mm smooth coat. Good filling joins in lining paper as well (if you end up with some if the paper shrinks).
