End of coal generation - Gridwatch plea

Nov 01, 2024 Last reply: 1 year ago 14 Replies

Allegedly the last coal generation plant has shut down. [But is there still an emergency capacity?]

If so that should render one of the gauges on Gridwatch redundant.

Can I put in a small plea for an extra facility to replace it?

There are currently 7 interconnects which are always importing or exporting. Sometimes confusingly, as in importing French and exporting Dutch. Also some is just internal transfer within the UK (I think)

Would it be possible to have a gauge which shows net import/export? Treating "rest of the world" as an aggregate source?

Cheers

Could do. I've another ICT to add anyway

The "other" Gridwatch has nine.

Sounds like a fine idea.

I combine the two French.

PS its the fake for profit gridwatch, not the 'other one'

You could ask for donations, too.

I would hate to be duped into going to the fake site. How do I know which one is which?

gridwatch.co.uk is a commercial site gridwatch.org.uk is not for profit

it is aliased to gridwatch.templar.co.uk

Which if you are requesting donations, is "for profit" ??

No. It covers costs. I do not take advertisements

I don't think one or two static ads, more like a sponsorship deal, would be out of order.

Additional point: are we expecting Drax to close if the subsidy for "renewable" deforestation is withdrawn. I think I have seen suggestions that this might happen.

That would be typical of Red Ed Milliband. Ought to crash the grid nicely pulling 4GW of reliable baseload generation off it

running at £2m/day

Is it just biomass ROCs and CFDs that are due to end by 2027Q1, or all of them?

By 2027 Milliband will have destroyed the grid and Rosa Kleb the economy. They will beg Drax to go back to coal...
