ebay sign-in being difficult (2023 Update)

Just tried signing in to Ebay to place a bid on something I've been watching for a few days. It thinks I'm signing in from a different computer (which I'm not) and it's asking me to confirm my identity by calling a number and giving them a code. It's not done that before. So I dial the number, 2086-100157 (not sure about the hyphen, no hyphen on my keypad, so I ignore it) and I get a voice repeating 'sorry, you've not been given access to that service'. So I can't get in! WTF?

OK as you were! I eventually tried putting a zero in front of the 2, and it worked OK then. Now why couldn't they have said that? Pah!

This is all to do with security. The problem is most of these dweebs do not come from the UK, so do not know the number conventions. Brian

I think I just left it 5 mins, cleared cookies and it let me straight back in. Either that or there was a verification by email option, I forget which.

AFAICS there's only one 'option' you can select, and that's to have a one-time code sent to your mobile phone. That didn't suit me, so I complained, stating that if we had to have an additional verification, I should be able to use my home phone (which is more secure) instead. Nothing doing, I was informed! Wankers.

Strange. eBay keeps asking me if I'm a robot. This seems to be a robot asking me if I'm a robot. I've tried changing my password, obviously it doesn't work and asks me to call the ridiculous number 2086-100157. How have eBay lost my password and history. Have I been scammed by the bloody russians?
