What you mean is Otitis Externa which is an infection of the outer ear.
There is a related condition called serous otitis media but is in the middle ear and this produces fluid.

You guess wrong. Make your point, Tim
Okay, generally, unless you?re talking about private medicine, you don?t have access to services like an enhanced MRI on request. Services like these are a limited resource and a doctor will decide whether you need one or not.
Not saying it?s not possible to get one privately, but you may no comment on this being a paid for service which is what made me think that you were talking as an inhabitant of a country with no national health service.
Tim
haaaaaaaaaaaa
No, Tim. Totally wrong. (My wife's) MRIs have all been provided by the NHS - "MRI - Head with Gadolinium". About 30 of them since 2015.

And who made the decision about whether you could get the scan, you or a doctor?
My point is, you can *ask* an NHS doctor for a type of scan, but it?s his/her decision. You can?t just waltz in and demand one.
Tim
I did, in fact, demand that such an MRI should take place asap. Perhaps our, then, GP respects or fears my determination. Anyway, at the start of the relevant consultation the GP's strategy was solely to pursue the ENT path and by the end of the consultation the MRI was the key strategy
- and was performed within 48 hours of the consultation.
The point that GPs are the gate-keepers to NHS services is hardly a secret, Tim.

When my son's consultant said let's just wait and see if he has another seizure (his first one having resulted in cardio-respiratory arrest and there being little hope if it happened again on the hour's, rush-hour, bus journey to school!), we got nowhere. Organising a private consultation elsewhere, resulted in a letter from the private consultant, to his NHS GP and his GP then requesting a scan himself - although the result still came through the NHS consultant.
The Venn diagram intersection of "ISO 9000" and "Proper Quality Control Procedures" is not necessarily very large
Of course not. I was just picking up on the way you advised ?get an enhanced MRI?. It?s up to your doctor to decide whether someone warrants one.
Demanding specialist scans isn?t the best way to get what you want from your doctor. *Asking* for a scan and giving good reasons why you think it would be a good idea will be much more likely to achieve a favourable outcome.
Tim
Specialist scans - my foot.
PA
Not on the waiting list for the proctologist, then?
Owain
Yeah, if you say so. I presume your GP has one in his surgery?
Tim
Wrong - again - Tim. Twice wrong, actually.
Sorry, I aimed too high. Clearly went over your head.
Tim
Oh, the irony.
