DIY Mobile Antenna

Got to admit, I'd written Apple off before, but I think it's brilliant that they have finally decided not to exercise control over everything, and now allow you (should you wish to hold your iPhone 4G like a human being), to work out your own way to get the antenna working. I've so far heard of jelly cases, scotch tape, rubber bands and condoms as the home-bake solution to the part-baked offering from the store. Far far from proprietary. In fact, more choice that I have with my HTC Legend. Well - I suppose I could use a condom on it... ;-)

I hear that a software patch may become available very soon. A great shame for all of those who have bought this device believing that the unique antenna will help with connectivity in all scenarios, as I guess the software patch is simply going to disable the antenna if the phone is detected as being 'handheld' at the time.

PS. Resident Apple fanboy un-killfiled for this! :-D PPS. Stevey 'has more chance of getting laid because he has an iPhone rather than an Android phone' Firth - try keeping on thread topic here (it IS about DIY!!) - I know you cannot manage it though, and will just slate me (and maybe other operating systems) instead... PPPS. Steve - do you really think that some 'bad news' that my fiancée and I will work out together is 'relationship troubles'? You and lover Hans are a little out of touch on the relationship side of things, aren't you? :-D PPPPS. Yes - I know this is utterly utterly naughty... ;-)

This is a DIY group:

Get a couple of tins of beans or soup. Eat contents. Tie cans together and give one to your friend. Try to pull it back from him. Engage in meaningful conversation over who owns tins.

Patent device before Jobs sees you at it, you extremely silly fool.

In this instance, yes, agreed.

I never wasted my time and money on it though.

I wasn't aware Apple had released a 4G iPhone. What's the point as there are no 4G networks to use it on yet.
