As DIYers I am sure we have all had those jobs that despite looking straightforward also have the potential to be a real PITA. Today’s task was to replace the scaled up float valve, simples turn off the isolator undo the connector, undo the nut holding the flush valve. Replace with new float valve, secure in place with washers and nut provided reconnect the connector turn on isolator and Robert’s my uncle.
That was until Sod’s Law came into play! Firstly, the isolator was a crappy plastic push fit so I already felt some foreboding before I even started. My gut was not wrong, turning it off the whole thing felt cheap and cheerful the thing was weeping all the time I was replacing the float valve. The plastic nut on the connector was stiff coming off and I felt the whole twisted in the isolator. Re-assembled the whole lot and as feared it went t*ts up, water under pressure coming from both ends of the connector no matter how much tightening applied. I have ordered replacement parts and it has become tomorrow’s job although with an offset just below the isolator that looks like it is going to require some fettling.
So for tonight we are going third world WC with bucket of water flushing.
