Tried to use Dettol for cleaning the washing machine rubber jobbie. Is it likely that Dettol in a bottle with a use-before date of 01 Oct 1997 will still be useful?

I recently throw away a bottle of pump-action Dettol, because it was about four or five years past the BB date - and had things growing in it...

Dettol is a phenol based disinfectant. Not particularly good for cleaning.

Chloroxylenol. Melting point 114-116C so very unvolatile. Thus it should still be good. But very toxic to animals.
