Has anyone designed and built an EVSE point for electric vehicle charging? It looks to be a straightforward problem so any experience and guidance would be appreciated.
(And yes, I do have the experience and competence to do it well and safely)

Providing you know the charge rate specifications it would be simple to build a controller yes.
EV "chargers" are not battery normal chargers. They are devices that restrict AC current to a level the socket and rectifier on the car can handle. Tied in are interlocks to prevent various unwanted things happening. Eg, driving off with the charge lead plugged in. Using both fast and low charge socket being simultaneously used. Plus a few more.
So, not simple to build a charger.
