Combination washing machines + tumble driers

Are any such combinations reasonably good at both functions? The reviews I've seen seem to cast some doubt on this. (Nb I don't have access to Which.)

We have one, due to severe lack of space, and it works. It washes just as well as a separate, and drying performance is adequate. The main problem is lack of flexibility and it takes longer to dry a load than a separate. Ours is a 8kg wash/4kg dry, if that makes any difference. On the plus side, using the dryer function seems to prevent the, "Grey slime" :)

All of them will only dry a half load, so if you want to do an unattended wash-dry cycle you are limited to a half load.

On the other hand, you can't do an unattended wash-dry cycle at all with separate machines.

No, the drying function is not as good as a separate machine. If the drying function is just for occasional use, which I hope it is, then this isn't too much of a problem and the space saving is often useful.

There are plenty of other ways of drying clothes most of the time.

Compromise , at best ... USA boxes are trouble at just plian washing , the only thing good is the final spin , it works well .... But why did the makers not learn from watching their own machine ? first rinse , is to dump water in and tumble a bit . Wastes water !

All rinsing can start with no more than a few tumbles , then you must spin at hi speed and SPRAY a fine stream of water at center of the clothes . You will rinse 3 times faster and use less water . Dishes are similar , you cant rinse dishes as fast by dunking , each dunk ruins the water that will rinse ! ** spray water in dishes and they'll be done in 5 seconds .

Just spent 5 years in Thailand ,BKK , every sidewalk food merchant rinsed in soapy water . the "runs" , not a good laxative . They could have used a garden sprinkler , hoisted the dish and sprinkled it and dryed it . BTW , i cook , Thais DONT , It looks good , it does not taste good . Any cooks in UK making their own maltose ( carmelized ....) I can make it the ordinary method , Brown sugar and...

Boil white sugar , adjust pH and add sodium .... Im close , but still not perfect ..

Mine washes really well and doesn't wear clothes out like a top-loader. The spin dry is perhaps not fast enough so it takes a while to dry. One advantage is that the machine is sterilised by the drying cycle, which helps prevent cross-infections in a household.

I've owned perhaps six several different brands of washer-dryer over the years. It's a different kind of drying cycle, relying on heat and gentle rotation rather than flinging the water out by centrifugal force. So better for delicate clothes but significantly less effective (stuff never comes out dry and will need a fair bit of hanging afterwards).
