I have just had some building work done and they have left paint spalshes and morter splattered on neighbours brickwork. The builders said they had some "acid " that wwould clean it off and then didnt appear again. Anyone know what this acid would be and where to get it? Thanks Rich Westerly 2219 DAVICO
They mean brick acid, which you can get from B&Q etc. It's hydrochloric, and will make the mortar fizz like Alkaseltzer (including the mortar between the bricks of course!) It won't touch the paint splashes, however.

Snots should be knocked off next day, when theyre dry but still quite soft. If you leave them theyre nowhere near as easy to remove. Brick acid will do it, but you need to remove as much as poss mechanically, as the acid only acts superfifically..
Gloss paint can be removed with caustic soda. Just dont mix that with the acid :)
And do wear safety googles.

Acid no good for removing paint from anywhere.
Use Paint Stripper, (with gloves & eye goggles ,of course). Wire brush off any residue after stripper.
